Geography and Planning Certificate
ECU’s Geography and Planning Certificate combines environmental systems, sustainability, and urban planning. Students study water, ocean systems, environment-society relationships, and cities while building knowledge they can apply to climate challenges, infrastructure needs, and community resilience.

The certificate connects environmental knowledge with decisions about cities and communities. Students examine water and ocean systems, how people interact with the environment, and how planning can address sustainability, infrastructure, and resilience.
Why Study Geography and Planning?
Program Overview
The Geography and Planning Certificate is a 13 s.h. undergraduate program available only to students accepted through ECU Online Flight Path. Its four required courses cover water, oceanography, environment and society, and sustainable cities. Students also choose the laboratory paired with either Water in the Environment or Oceanography.
The curriculum supports work connected to government, planning, public health, and corporate sustainability. It can help students understand how environmental systems and community decisions come together in questions about climate, infrastructure, and resilience.
