The Geography and Geospatial Data Science, BS / Geography and Environment, MS accelerated pathway helps qualified students begin graduate study while completing the bachelor’s degree. Up to 12 s.h. of approved graduate coursework may count toward both degrees.

Pathway Overview

This pathway is for Geography and Geospatial Data Science students who want to move into graduate work in geography and environment. It is especially useful for students planning advanced study in geospatial methods, environmental geography, human geography, or related areas.

Requirements

The official ECU Catalog is the source of record for admission timing, approved courses, and degree requirements. In summary, qualified students may count up to 12 s.h. of graduate coursework toward both degrees.

• Students may apply with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 during the semester they expect to complete at least 75 eligible undergraduate s.h.
• Graduate coursework begins in the third or fourth year.
• Approved courses include GEOG 5393, GEOG 6100, GEOG 6110, GEOG 6150, GEOG 6401, GEOG 6405, GEOG 6450, and other catalog-listed graduate or paired courses.
• Students should confirm the approved course list with the coordinator before registration.
• Students must earn a B or higher in every graduate course to remain in the accelerated program. A grade of C may count toward the bachelor’s degree, but the student may not take additional graduate courses through the accelerated program.
