The Environmental Studies, BS / Geography and Environment, MS accelerated pathway helps qualified students begin graduate study while completing the bachelor’s degree. Up to 12 s.h. of approved graduate coursework may count toward both degrees.

Pathway Overview

This pathway is for Environmental Studies students who want to continue into graduate work in geography and environment. Students work with their advisors and the graduate program director to choose graduate courses that fit the catalog requirements and their academic goals.

Requirements

The official ECU Catalog is the source of record for admission timing, approved courses and degree requirements. In summary, qualified students may count up to 12 s.h. of graduate coursework toward both degrees.

  • Students may apply with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 during the semester they expect to complete at least 75 eligible undergraduate s.h.
  • Graduate coursework begins in the third or fourth year.
  • Students select up to 12 s.h. from the catalog’s approved graduate electives.
  • Students must earn a B or higher in every graduate course to remain in the accelerated program. A grade of C may count toward the bachelor’s degree, but the student may not take additional graduate courses through the accelerated program.

How to Get Started

  1. Review your degree progress with your undergraduate advisor.
  2. Contact Eric Horsman to discuss pathway timing and graduate course options.
  3. Work with the graduate program director to submit the Request to Pursue an Accelerated Undergraduate/Graduate Program form.
  4. Use the official catalog entry to verify current requirements before applying.
