The Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, BS / Geography and Environment, MS accelerated pathway gives qualified students a way to begin graduate study while completing the bachelor’s degree. Up to 12 s.h. of approved graduate coursework may count toward both degrees.

Pathway Overview

This pathway is for Earth and Atmospheric Sciences students who want to continue into advanced study in geography and environment. Students work with their advisors to choose graduate courses that fit the catalog requirements and their academic goals.

Requirements

The official ECU Catalog is the source of record for admission timing, approved courses, and degree requirements. In summary, qualified students may count up to 12 s.h. of graduate coursework toward both degrees.

  • Students may apply with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 during the semester they expect to complete at least 75 eligible undergraduate s.h.
  • Graduate coursework begins in the fourth year.
  • The required graduate course is GEOG 6110 – Research Design in Geography.
  • Students choose up to 9 s.h. of approved electives.
  • Students must earn a B or higher in every graduate course to remain in the accelerated program. A grade of C may count toward the bachelor’s degree, but the student may not take additional graduate courses through the accelerated program.
